Leaf collages of birds by Fred Martell are constructed from dried, pressed, and colored leaves collected in the Fall. They will hold their color if not exposed to direct sunlight. The construction of the bird collages is accomplished by using leaves with the right texture, color and shape to simulate the bird's feathers. No other materials are used except glue and a clear plastic spray to seal the finished collage. Most of the frames are hand made and sometimes include stained glass to enhance the overall design. The collages have been seen and sold in several galleries in New York, Vermont and Sante Fe. Purchase have gone to Malta, France and El Salvador besides the United States and Canada. All collages are for sale and special orders can be made of a bird of your choice and many more already exist.
